Social Action and Supported Charities
- Adath Shalom encourages our members to contribute to two important efforts linked to the movement for Conservative Judaism in Israel:

Every year our Social Action committee designates a worthy Jewish Canadian charity that we encourage our members to support directly. In 2026-27, it is Leket Canada. From the committee:
Leket Canada is a fundraising and marketing arm of Leket Israel, Israel’s National Food Bank. Leket’s focus is rescuing healthy, surplus food and delivering it to those in need through partner nonprofit organizations.
The Mission
Leket Canada was established to address the issue of growing hunger and large-scale food waste in Israel.
About Leket Canada
Among those without enough food in Israel are Holocaust survivors, immigrants, the elderly, single parent families, youth at risk, and those who work but do not earn enough to cover their basic needs. Leket Israel rescues fresh produce, prepared meat meals, and other nutritious food that would otherwise be wasted and gives it to the poor.
Leket works with over 200 non-profits throughout the country to provide nutritious food to over 175,000 needy Israelis weekly of all ethnic backgrounds, races, and religions. To carry out its activities Leket operates two logistics centers, 10 food cargo trucks, employs over 100 staff and mobilizes 60,000 volunteers annually.
